Betty Jane Gatlin
Passed away on August 14, 2024
Betty Jane Gatlin, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on April 28, 1936, in Savannah, GA. Betty was the beacon of warmth and kindness whose impact on everyone she met will be remembered with deep affection.
Betty was born in Savannah and resided most of her life there until moving into Bryan County Health and Rehab. She was a waitress for Levy’s for over 36 years. When Levy’s/Maas Brothers closed, she worked at the Savannah Golf Club until she retired.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Jennings Gatlin.
Outside of work, Betty was an avid bowler, Yahtzee player, and shopper. But she enjoyed spending time with family and friends most of all.
Betty is survived by her six children, Mike Hibbs (Judy), Susan Butler (Eddie), James Gleaton (Melody), Beth Strickland (David), Mike Gatlin, Randy Gatlin (Missy), 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., Monday, August 19, 2024, at Fox & Weeks, Hodgson Chapel.
A Memorial Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel. Friends and family are invited to gather to celebrate Betty’s life and share memories.

Ms. Betty was such a a loving and sweet person. I got to meet her and spend time with her while she roommates with Burnett Me Me Yancey. She was such a a great caregiver to her even tho she was a patient also. Susan please know you are in my thoughts and prayers along with your family. I remember Ms. Betty working in the Azalea room at Levy's.. It was always a treat when mama took us there for lunch.. Always wanted to sit in Ms. Bettys section as she was one of the nicest people I had ever met. Condolences to the family... RIP Ms. Betty.

Sincere condolences to you all in the loss of the wonderful, kind and friendly lady I knew as “Miss Betty”. As a young girl whose parents had downtown businesses, we often had lunch at the Azalea Room! Betty was always ready to greet us and make us feel welcomed! I know you will miss her but I am sure you have many wonderful memories of the woman she was! She made a difference, and will be missed!
